Tegan is 24 years old and eight months pregnant. The baby's father does not want to be a part of the child's life but has offered Tegan significant money to stay anonymous. Feeling distraught, she decides to drive to visit her brother. While on the road, a snowstorm hits, and her car crashes. Alive but hurt, she is rescued by Hank who lives nearby with his wife Polly. Despite Hank's scary appearance, Tegan has no option but to go with him. She soon realizes that she is in danger. Unable to walk, without phone service, and confined to the couple's basement, things look bleak for the young woman who only wants to protect her unborn child.
The Crash by Freida McFadden is a satisfying psychological thriller. It's hard not to compare it to the movie Misery and Kathy Bates' character. Despite some repetition, I found it tense and worthwhile. The author incorporated some creative twists, steering clear of a predictable plot.
Rated 3.75 out of 5 stars.
