Young, smart, and ambitious Christine Russo is a writer/editor for Bespoke Weddings. Sandra Yoon, the editor-in-chief, sends her to Ireland's Ballymoon Castle Hotel to cover the wedding of schoolteacher Jane Murphy and Dr. Graham Ripton, grandson of Gloria Beaufort, CEO of the successful beauty company Glo. Christine was hand-picked by the family to write about the wedding, much to Sandra's surprise. Christine quickly becomes part of the family's inner circle. However, this incredible opportunity turns into a nightmare when the bride-to-be finds Gloria dead. She's been shot. Let the whodunit begin. Nearly everyone is a possible suspect. With 350 guests on their way, the family decides to keep Gloria on ice so the wedding can take place. In addition to the present-day events, the story includes flashbacks revealing that this is a family filled with people who are not to be trusted. Knowing that a fluff piece about a luxury wedding is no longer the story, Christine is determined to uncover the family's secrets and find out who is responsible for Gloria's death.
A Killer Wedding is author Joan O'Leary's impressive debut novel. You'll want to keep a scorecard tracking all the people who could be responsible for this over-the-top situation. The story isn't as dark as it might seem, nor does it fall into the "cozy" mystery category. It incorporates humor and wit, which is fitting given the author's background as a producer at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The castle setting added good ambiance. I'm glad I RSVP'd "yes" to this enjoyable book.
