Getting Away with Murder - a couple obsessed with wealth is overtaken by greed.

Ted and Jill Westcott's lavish life is in jeopardy. Ted has made some poor business decisions with his inherited fortune and is now in debt. All that's left is their beautiful brownstone in Brooklyn, and losing it is not an option. What can two shallow, money-driven people do? Ted decides that the only way to get the money he needs is to kill his brother, Greg. And Jill is all in. Despite their mutual hatred, Greg had decided to keep his $40 million fortune within the family, making Ted his heir. The murder takes place on Greg's sailboat. Ted pushes Greg overboard, and apart from Jill, there are no witnesses, and the body is lost at sea. Officer Ramirez is immediately suspicious, and soon others begin to question whether this was a tragic accident or something more sinister. Then, a mysterious text appears: “I know what you did.” Blackmail threats follow. As Ted and Jill's plan starts to unravel, they are desperate to find out who is behind the threats.

In Getting Away with Murder, Shari Lapena introduces us to the ultimate entitled couple. Ted and Jill's desire to maintain their lifestyle leads them on a despicable path. The murder occurs early in the story, revealing from the outset exactly what kind of people they are. The tension leaps off the page as Ted and Jill strive to protect the fortune that will soon be theirs. This was a fun ride watching two people descend into complete moral bankruptcy. As the twists keep coming, there is no rooting for Ted and Jill, just the suspense of whether or not they will ultimately get away with murder.
