The three Shipman sisters return to their Rye, New Hampshire summer home at the request of their father, Calvin. Things have been difficult since losing their mother Theresa more than two years ago. Calvin, who has recently married their mother's hospice nurse, tells his daughters he intends to sell the beachfront property. While shocked, each sister is struggling with issues they have not shared. Mae, the youngest, is about to turn thirty and is broke and homeless. Natalie, who has come with her husband and children, has gained social media fame as a "trad wife," but her situation is about to change. Jordan, the oldest sister, appears to have a thriving career but things are not what they seem.
Down with the Shipmans, written by Meg Mitchell Moore, is a heartfelt story of a family that loves one another yet needs to heal and let each other in. The characters are both relatable and likeable. The appearance of Calvin's new wife Kara adds to the drama, but her compassion is a standout, along with Leo, the rescue dog Mae is training. While filled with emotion, there is also humor, and a perfect summer setting.
