The Young Will Remember - the bonds formed between three women during the Korean War.

In 1950, Ellie Chang, a 28-year-old Chinese American journalist, is traveling to North Korea following the invasion of South Korea by its army and the initiation of a "police action" by the United States under the United Nations. After her plane is shot down, Ellie is saved by Emma, a woman searching for her daughter, who was captured and forced to become a "comfort woman" by the Imperial Japanese Army. Ellie is taken in by Pak Sung-Ho, a Baptist minister, and his wife Imo, who fears that Ellie's presence will endanger them. As war rages on, Ellie's only hope is to attempt the difficult journey south, but she cannot travel alone as she does not speak Korean and risks being identified as the enemy. The three women come to depend on and protect each other.

The Young Will Remember by Eve J. Chung is a story of the bonds formed between women during wartime. Ellie, Emma, and Imo are memorable, resilient characters in this engaging and haunting tale set during a brutal war that is not often written about. The author's debut novel, Daughters of Shandong, inspired by Chung's family history, is also recommended reading.
