The Pinnacle - a creative murder mystery set in a luxury skyscraper.

George Abercrombie is 50 years old and is a formerly successful actor now doing product endorsements. He's an American living in Mumbai with his younger wife, Sweety Sahota, a Bollywood star, on the 68th floor of The Pinnacle, a high-rise epitomizing luxury. After the couple has an argument, George goes out drinking, returns home, sleeps on the couch, and wakes up in a blood-stained shirt, discovering Sweety dead in their bed. He is certain he couldn't have killed her. But who did? Amit, his "manservant," is a possible suspect, especially since he has disappeared with some of George's money and Sweety's valuables. Gemma, Sweety's assistant, is entangled in her own drama. She's involved with a married man and is being blackmailed with a sex tape of her and her lover, a highly ranked government official. Gemma's urgent situation makes it difficult for her to help George clear his name and assist in his search for Sweety's killer.

The Pinnacle by Abir Mukherjee is a clever, fast-paced thriller told from the perspectives of George, Amit, and Gemma. Set in the city's most prestigious skyscraper, it effectively highlights the stark contrast between the area's ultra-wealthy and those struggling to get by. The local criminal element also plays a role, offering protection to the rich and providing the poor with access to much-needed money. This murder mystery is filled with social commentary and some witty moments, making it a satisfying read.
