David Hastings has always been in control of his life. But Alzheimer's is now taking over, and the once powerful business executive must take notes to remember what he needs to do each day, although he no longer recognizes his handwriting. In a final attempt to maintain control, David has chosen to end his life through legal assisted suicide in Zurich. His former boss offers the use of his private plane. Accompanied by Cody, his young assistant, David, who has been long divorced, first travels to London to see his adult daughter, and hopes to reconnect with an old school friend in France. During David's final journey, his cognition continues to deteriorate, while memories of his younger days remain more vivid.

Switzy, by Emma Cline, was a difficult book to read. This poignant story brings readers into the mind of someone afflicted by a devastating disease, making it often overwhelming due to its realism. It's a haunting book that will surely stay with me.

Rated 4 out of 5 stars.
