Off the Record - an aspiring reporter bends the rules to get ahead.

In 1962, Judy Greenberg, a recent college graduate, is eager to launch her journalism career. Although she's ambitious and capable, she faces unforeseen challenges as a young woman. When she interviews at The Washington Digest, she's relegated to the typing pool. Undeterred, she plans to prove herself and get noticed. When she takes a message from the editor's private line, she realizes she's uncovered a significant story. Having already made cute reporter Jack Fields' work look good by editing his articles, she persuades him to work with her to track down people who might have ties to Cuba and Russia, hiding in plain sight. She's either on the brink of becoming a real reporter, or she'll be fired once the newspaper discovers what she's doing.

Author Sara Goodman Confino's Off the Record is a delightful book about a woman striving to get her foot in the door at a time when all those doors were locked. Judy is a lively and spirited character determined to pursue her own dreams rather than conform to others' expectations. Filled with humor, heart, nostalgia, and some mystery, this is an enjoyable and quick read. Enjoy.
