In Her Defense - truth, power, and love collide.

Set in London, a high-profile libel case is unfolding. TV celebrity Anna Finbow is being sued for defamation by her daughter Mary's therapist, Jean Guest. Anna accused Jean in a published piece of brainwashing Mary and isolating her from the family in a cult-like way. The story is told by Augusta "Gus" Bird, a young woman who previously worked for Anna. Gus has been hiding the truth about herself and her ties to Mary and Jean, whom she met in Rome. As Gus prepares to testify at the trial, it becomes increasingly unclear as to whose memories of the past are accurate.

In Her Defense, Philippa Malicka's engaging legal and family drama/thriller, often proved to be an unsettling and disturbing read. Each character is flawed, making it hard to root for any of them, although some deserve a degree of empathy. Nevertheless, the story was compelling, particularly as the trial draws to its conclusion. This book is sure to bring mixed emotions, but it's one you'll definitely want to talk about it.
