Maybe it’s the time of the year or this crazy year in general but the last several books I’ve read recently are much lighter and have focused on romance. I’m guessing that I am subconsciously steering away from the dark twisty books and heavy historical fiction books I normally gravitate to. Well, you can’t veer much further than In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren (fans know this is the combined pen name of Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings.) I’ve read many of their books so I expected a nice rom-com. And it delivered.
Twenty-six year old Maelyn Jones is on her annual Christmas vacation in a cabin in the Utah mountains with her parents, brother and their family best friends. Her parents are divorced yet they come together for this annual tradition. The group includes one of the couple's two sons Theo and Andrew. Andrew has been Maelyn’s secret crush since childhood.
Struggling with no romance in her life and a job she hasn’t had the courage to quit, she looks up and asks the universe “what would happiness look like?” In cute “Groundhog’s Day” fashion, Maelyn gets several chances to re-live the days leading up to Christmas to see if she can fulfill her quest to finding happiness. Will Maelyn finally confront her feelings for Andrew? Is Andrew truly the key to her finding happiness?
Sound a little silly? It is. But it’s also sweet, joyful and romantic.
A nice diversion which may cause a cavity or two. You’ve been warned.
Enjoy.
