Mina is all set for a high-profile, landmark, 20-hour, non-stop flight from London to Sydney as a flight attendant on World Airways. She could use the time away. Her marriage to police detective Adam is falling apart as she is convinced he slept with the former au pair who was caring for their five-year-old daughter Sophie. As the flight progresses, Mina discovers that there is a hijacker on the plane and if she doesn’t meet the demands set in a letter to her, Sophie will die. It appears that several passengers on the plane are part of an environmental terrorist group willing to blow up the plane if their demands aren’t met.
Author Clare Mackintosh combines her expertise in family dramas and thrillers and has created one nail-biting story. Hostage is everything you want in a claustrophobic, tense thriller. There are more than 350 people trapped in one plane and time is running out. And which of the passengers are part of the group prepared to die for their cause? The story is told from the perspectives of Mina, Adam and the thoughts of some of the passengers. This skillful book will keep you guessing and cringing. And staying away from airplanes for a while.
