Whale Harbor - a beautiful and moving tale of a family of eleven brothers from Ireland.
In 1963, Cathal and Mary Joyce are raising their large family of sons in a small village in Connemara, Ireland called Cuan an Mhíl Mhóir (Whale Harbor). Cathal serves as the local postman and is a bootlegger on the side. He often disappears for days, leaving Mary to care for the boys. After the birth of their 11th son, tragedy strikes. Sixteen-year-old Macdara (Mac), the second oldest child, makes the decision to move to Montana to join his best friend, where he will be able to work on a ranch and have a place to live. Several of Mac's brothers are sent to live elsewhere, and the family is forever changed. Over the years, Mac works hard with the aim of bringing his brothers to America once they are old enough. He learns that his brother Rian, who wanted to go to Montana with him but was too young, ran away from home and was never found. Guilt over Rian's absence continues to haunt Mac as the years progress. As the brothers build their lives in New York, they start to think about their home in Ireland and Mac remembers the day a whale washed to shore captivating the town.
