Anna Andrews (“Her”) is a television news reporter. She is sent from London to Blackdown, her hometown, to cover a murder. She learns that the victim is an old friend. Detective Jack Harper (“Him”) is leading the case to solve the murder. He also knows the victim. Very well. And he knows Anna very well too. She’s his ex-wife. What we have are two unreliable narrators telling the story. We don’t know who to trust as both are keeping secrets. There is also a third voice narrating – the Killer.
A friendship bracelet is found with the body. It’s the same bracelet Anna and her clique of friends all wore. We learn the back story of their marriage as well as Anna’s school days. Is Anna the next victim or is she to blame? Clues start pointing to Jack even while he’s the lead investigator.
His & Hers is filled with non-stop suspense and will keep you guessing. There are lots of people to suspect in this spine-tingler. I enjoyed being bounced around on this fun roller coaster of a book. Fans of psychological thrillers, this one's for you.
Content warning: there is a scene with violence toward teenager girls and one with animal abuse which were disturbing.
4.25 out of 5 stars.
