Sejal Chaudhary, the daughter of two career criminals, lives in hiding. She makes money by conning men using sleight-of-hand tricks. Her father has died, and her mother, the former head of Cobra, a crime syndicate, is in jail. Sejal's ex-boyfriend is the son of the head of a Russian mafia family, and she has reasons to fear him. Krish Anand has his eye on Sejal, hoping she can help him find his missing brother, who works for the FBI and has been accused by the agency of collaborating with Cobra. Krish is convinced of his brother's innocence and persuades Sejal to drive cross-country to California to find her aunt, the new head of Cobra, who he suspects may have harmed his brother. Meanwhile, Sejal seeks protection from her former boyfriend. Krish deceives Sejal by pretending to be an FBI agent, as the attraction between them intensifies with each mile of their journey.
Enemies to Lovers by Alisha Rai was an entertaining and action-packed book filled with continuous threats of danger, intricate family dynamics, and, as expected, a simmering romance developing. The main characters were engaging, and the themes of opposites attract and forced proximity/one-bed left no doubt as to whether the two would connect. The addition of a crime mystery gave the book added appeal. Enjoy.
