In Durham, England, defense attorney Leila Reynolds is preparing for her first murder trial, and it's guaranteed to be a high-profile one. Popular Judge Smythe has been murdered and Jack Millman, an ex-con found at the scene, claims he is innocent. It's surprising to everyone that Jack specifically chose Leila to represent him. While Leila is eager to prove herself, she faces a particularly challenging situation as the prosecutor is her husband, Julian Kesler, who also served as her mentor. For Julian, winning is everything. And Jack has made Leila's job even harder as he is refusing to talk. As Leila works on the case, she discovers that someone is stalking her both in person and online and seems to be out to get her.
Dissection of a Murder by Jo Murray is an intense, gripping legal thriller told through multiple points of view, primarily those of Leila and Witness X, a person who reveals more and more details about the murder. In a case that seems hopeless, Leila and solicitor Davina try to find evidence to prove Jack's innocence. As the trial unfolds, the courtroom scenes are well crafted and filled with suspense. When the twists and reveals come, watch out. The author's experience as a former barrister gives the story great realism and provides insight into the British legal system. It came as no surprise that this outstanding book is being adapted for the second season of Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent. Rachel Brosnahan will star as Leila. Marvelous!
