56 Days – a burgeoning romance during lockdown is filled with secrets and lies.

It’s March 2020 in Dublin. Ciara Wyse has a chance meeting with Oliver Kennedy in a supermarket. A brief chat turns into a date. They start seeing one another. But developing a normal romance becomes impossible when Ireland is struck with its first case of Covid-19 and a lockdown is soon imposed. Both new to the area, Ciara has a very small flat while Oliver is using a spacious corporate residence in a complex called the Crossings. Oliver suggests that Ciara stay with him during the lockdown, initially believed to be for two weeks. So is 56 Days a sweet pandemic love story? No. It is not. We know from the onset that 56 days from their cute meeting, there’s a decomposing body discovered in Oliver’s apartment.

Author Catherine Ryan Howard keeps the suspense at a high level in this inventive thriller by going forward and back in time, often retelling the same story from both Oliver’s and Ciara’s points of view. Their stories are different as there are secrets being unfolded that you’ll enjoy discovering. As with her last book The Nothing Man, Howard has demonstrated that she has a talent for creative storytelling with effective twists and surprises. Don’t miss this one.
