This riveting story begins on October 30, 2022, when Jen Brotherhood, a divorce lawyer, and her husband Kelly see their 18-year-old son Todd stab and kill an older man outside their home. Todd is arrested and Jen is desperate to understand what could have led her son to commit this horrible act. The next day, she realizes it is October 29. Each time she awakes, she goes further back in time. Her journey takes her back several days and then years in the past. Jen uses each day she has already lived to try and unravel what led to Todd's crime and stop it from happening. Jen finds herself in a time loop that not only gives her the possible chance to save her son's future but also gives her the opportunity to explore her life - her relationship with her son, her husband and her father.
British author Gillian McAllister has written one of the most creative thrillers I've read in a long time. Wrong Place Wrong Time was so entertaining. The time travel aspect, not a literary trope I seek out, was so inventive and thought provoking. I was fully invested in Jen's quest to make things right for her son and come to terms with her guilt as a working mother. The fact that she felt that his crime had to in some way been her fault tugged at my heart. As the truth starts to unfold, as Jen goes back and back in time, there are several "holy moly" moments that solidified for me what a terrific book this is. Suspend disbelief, go with the flow and if you're a thriller fan, don't pass this one by.
