Now living in Boston, Charlie wants to make a podcast about the crime, feeling it is finally time to take control of his life and uncover the truth about that tragic day and his father, who vanished. Prompted by his boss Julian, an aggressive producer, Charlie starts digging into the murder, interviewing those who have remained silent all these years. When he learns about the suspicious death of the lead detective soon after the murder, Charles becomes more determined to get to the truth. Things are not adding up. Could everything Charlie thought he knew about this terrible day be wrong? 

Author Edwin Hill is well skilled in creating thriller misdirection and fully delivers in What Happened Next. The setting of Charlie's childhood home on a remote island creates an effective sense of isolation. The detailed account of the day of the brutal murder sets the stage as Charlie begins to find cracks in the story decades later. With an intriguing cast of characters, it is evident that some of the people he's known all his life cannot be trusted. He just doesn't know who they might be. Enjoy this highly entertaining book.
