The Senator's Wife - an entertaining political / domestic thriller.

Sloane Chase and Senator Whit Montgomery have both lived through tragedy. Each lost their respective spouses, finding love again with one another. But the chance for a happy ending starts looking doubtful for Sloane, a wealthy Washington D.C. philanthropist. First, the woman who may have helped to destroy Whit's first marriage appears to be inserting herself back into his life. Then, Sloane's lupus is starting to create new issues for her. A hip replacement is scheduled and Athena, a beautiful home health aide, has been hired to help Sloane recover. But Athena may not be the perfect helper she started out to be as Sloane keeps getting worse the longer Athena is around. And Whit seems to be getting a little too chummy with Athena. Plus, Whit may be mixed up in some questionable political activities.

The Senator's Wife is the latest psychological thriller by Liv Constantine (the writing team of sisters Lynne and Valerie Constantine). The Washington D.C. setting provided an interesting backdrop to this story, with its focus on money and power. The generous Sloane may appear to have it all, but all her money and influence can't seem to get her out of this terrible predicament. After a bit of a slow start, the pace of the book picks up nicely as Sloane's health gets worse and worse along with some dreaded gaslighting. Some inventive twists make this a worthwhile read.
