Redhead by the Side of the Road - a short and bittersweet tale.

At a time when our routines have been thoroughly disrupted, we meet Micah Mortimer. He’s a 43 year old computer geek with a very strict schedule to his life. He needs everything to be just so. This has made it hard to maintain relationships. His routine is upset when a young college student seeks him out believing Micah is his father. His relationship to his “woman friend” Cass starts to unravel.

Redhead by the Side of the Road is typical Anne Tyler. Actually, it’s one of her best. But like all her books, you wait for something major to happen but it never does. Which is fine. This is a short, touching, bittersweet and often amusing book about a goofy guy that you start to really care about.

The interesting headline reveals a lot about Micah – that while he’s had his eyes open, he isn’t seeing what’s really going on.

I love books about second chances. Enjoy this one.

(Note that this book is very short - under 200 pages. I would consider it a novella.)
