Smart and ambitious Jia Song is a junior partner in a prestigious Manhattan law firm. Her career is on track, and she's close to buying her dream Birkin bag. She is given a huge opportunity when asked to represent members of the Park family, an uber-rich Korean American family that owns a cosmetics company led by patriarch Chilsoo “Seven” Park. Seven's three children, twins Suzy and Sora, and brother Minsoo, want to prevent him from divorcing their terminally ill mother. Their ruthless father has already replaced wife Jenny with a much younger woman, who is pregnant. His proposed divorce settlement is low, making it clear to the children that Seven is hiding his true wealth. Although Jenny is reluctant to fight, she agrees, for the sake of her children, and gives Jia 30 days to prove that Seven has been dishonest and secure a fair agreement. Jenny's handsome house manager, Darius Rohani, helps Jia navigate through it all, though she doesn't quite trust him. As Jia gets close to uncovering crucial information, Seven is consistently one step ahead of her.
Park Avenue by Renée Ahdieh was an entertaining book. The characters travel across the world, seeking evidence that Seven is as awful as he seems. The three children each have their issues, with Sora hating Suzy almost as much as she hates her father. Sora earns her title as "Grand Gijibae". With plenty of family drama and bad behavior, Ahdieh has fun with it. While you'll enjoy learning how it all turns out for the Park family, I was just as interested in Jia's quest for that prized Hermès bag.
