DCI Julia Day's latest case is a report of a missing person. Twenty-two-year-old Olivia Johnson has just moved into a new apartment and is nowhere to be found. She was last seen on CCTV going into a dead-end alley and she never came out. Julia is determined to find her as she still has great guilt that she couldn't solve the case of Sadie, another young woman who went missing a year ago. At that time, Julia was dealing with another crime - one committed by her daughter Genevieve and one she covered up. Now her past has come back to haunt her when she is coerced by a blackmailer into planting evidence framing a man named Matthew for Olivia's disappearance. Julia desperately wants to find out what happened to Olivia, but she must protect Genevieve and herself. The search for Olivia gets more complicated and the story takes some effective twists and turns.
Author Gillian McAllister's last book Wrong Place Wrong Time was one of my favorite thrillers of 2022. Just Another Missing Person is another well-written and exciting book that reinforces what a clever storyteller McAllister is. It took a little longer for me to get fully invested but once all the pieces of the puzzle started to connect, it was worth it. I can't wait to see what this must-read author comes up with next.
