It all began with the best of intentions. Army combat surgeon Maggie McCabe, her husband Marc, and their friend Trace founded WorldCures Alliance, a charity dedicated to providing medical services overseas to people in need, often risking their lives in the process. When we meet Maggie, she has lost her medical license, and her life is in shambles. Marc is no longer around, and Trace is missing. Maggie is approached with an offer to perform concierge cosmetic surgery on a Russian oligarch and his girlfriend. Although it goes against everything she stands for, the money being offered is too much to pass up. Maggie travels to Russia and enters a world of wealth and opulence she has never experienced. But she quickly realizes that there is a lot more going on than providing discreet, unlicensed surgeries. Maggie is soon on the run with few resources other than her extreme smarts and fighting skills from her combat days. 

In an unexpected collaboration, Gone Before Goodbye brings together the always reliable and highly entertaining mystery thriller writer Harlan Coben with the multi-talented Reese Witherspoon, who continues to expand her horizons. While the plot often veers over the top, it provides a tension-filled escape laced with a bit of humor and the type of twists you'd expect from Coben.
