Debbie Mullen lives in suburban Massachusetts with her husband and their two teenage daughters. To keep busy and earn some extra money, Debbie writes an advice column for the local newspaper. It is mostly advice on household tips but recently the letters are more about relationships and Debbie starts writing about women taking control of their lives rather than how to take out a stain. Soon Debbie takes her own empowerment advice and decides to seek revenge on those who have caused injustices to her and her loved ones. Meanwhile, she becomes increasingly suspicious of her husband, who seems to be keeping secrets from her. Don't mess with Debbie; she's become unhinged.
In Dear Debbie, author Freida McFadden has created a twisty domestic thriller featuring a brilliant woman, a computer science major at MIT, who has been wronged enough times that she snaps. While alternating between cringing and laughing, I found myself rooting for her. This is an entertaining, over-the-top story of a woman who doles out her own form of karma.
