Lady Evelina Brancaster (Eve) and Adam Preston were both born on November 11, 1918, Armistice Day. Eve is the daughter of the Earl and Countess of Brancaster, and Adam is the son of the Earl's shepherd. during their childhood, Eve treated Adam as being beneath her, but as they started to be schooled together, a closeness formed as well as a competitiveness. While Adam hoped to secure a scholarship to an elite college, Eve was drawn to the land and the animals on the family estate. Soon, their plans are disrupted as Hitler rises to power, and war appears inevitable. The characters in the story interact with historical figures as Hitler plans an invasion of Britain, including an attack on the Royal Family.

Jeffrey Archer had announced that Adam and Eve would be his final book, marking the end of an impressive writing career. Sadly, Archer passed away the day before its release. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which is filled with many great characters and a tender love story, set against the backdrop of turbulent times. I'm so glad to have discovered this great storyteller many years ago.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars.
